“Today, without the contribution of foreign nationals, the Polish economy and labour market would be operating with the handbrake on. What we need is a systematic and balanced migration policy – one that reflects the actual needs of the labour market, while remaining safe and supportive of effective migrant integration,” said Artur Gregorczyk, expert at EWL Group and Legalito, during an interview on the “Po prostu Wschód” programme on Polish Radio Three.
In a conversation with journalist Piotr Pogorzelski, our expert also commented on the latest report prepared by UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency) in cooperation with consulting firm Deloitte. The report reveals that in 2024, the contribution of Ukrainian migrants working in Poland to the country’s GDP reached as much as 2.7%.
This is a figure that may come as a surprise – and at the same time provides clear evidence that well-managed legal labour migration does not burden the economy, but in fact strengthens it. Gregorczyk emphasised the urgent need for a thoughtful, long-term migration policy – one that not only meets the evolving needs of the labour market, but also ensures social cohesion and successful migrant integration.
We thank the Trójka editorial team for the invitation and for creating a space for meaningful discussion on migration, the labour market and integration.
